Create Something
This is not the first time I’ve written a blog post. It is the first time I’ve created a blog.
So what’s the diff?
In the past, I’ve written blog posts in order to showcase (“show off” is probably more accurate) my supposed expertise. Those blogs always fizzled away because frankly, I lost interest.
This one’s different. Taking a cue from Michael Neill, I have chosen this blog as something to create. This post, for example, is something that didn’t exist this morning. When I post this piece, I will have created something from nothing.
Here’s the process, according to Michael:
You start each day with nothing and you don’t have to know what you’re going to create before you begin. All you need to know is that you’re going to create something today.
At some point, something will occur to you and you’ll start mucking about with words or paper or music or whatever raw materials are available.
Your creation will start to take form and you’ll begin to do the work.
As you work with it, you may find yourself caught up in the creative flow.
At a certain point in the process, you’ll declare completion. You’ll consider it done. You’ll declare ‘Ta daa!’ and leave it to stand or fall on its own.
The beauty of this happens when you make creation a daily habit. Today is the first day of my habit. I don’t know what tomorrow’s creation will be. It could be another post, a piece of origami, or a pot of soup. I just know that from now on, I will create everyday and do so consciously.
